Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Ben Cardin (D-MD) introduced the Oral Health for Moms Act, which would expand oral health coverage in Medicaid for those who are pregnant or postpartum. The bill would also expand funding for dental services at Federally Qualified Heath Centers and make oral health coverage during pregnancy and postpartum an Essential Health Benefit (EHB). NADP provided recommendations related to the EHB provision and will continue to engage with bill sponsors moving forward. The bill will not be considered as part of the COVID relief package currently moving in the Senate. View This Post January 25, 2022 California Considers Imposing COVID Support Mandates On Insurers Two unprecedented provider relief bills have been introduced in the state of California this legislative session. Senate Bill 242, introduced on Jan. 22, is strongly opposed by the California Association of Dental Plans (CADP). CADP sent a letter to the sponsor stating that the overreaching measure, which mandates dental plans pay providers for a plethora of undefined “business expenses” related to patient treatment and protecting healthcare workers, jeopardizes dental coverage for millions of Californians and ignores the financial assistance carriers have already provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. A hearing on SB 242 is scheduled for March 10.
