Senate Bill 242, introduced on Jan. 22, is strongly opposed by the California Association of Dental Plans (CADP). CADP sent a letter to the sponsor stating that the overreaching measure, which mandates dental plans pay providers for a plethora of undefined “business expenses” related to patient treatment and protecting healthcare workers, jeopardizes dental coverage for millions of Californians and ignores the financial assistance carriers have already provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. A hearing on SB 242 is scheduled for March 10. View This Post January 25, 2022 Bills Addressing Dental Benefits in Medicare Introduced in Congress On Jan. 28, Sen. Cardin (D-MD) and Rep. Barragan (D-CA-44) introduced S.97/H.R.502, the Medicare Dental Benefit Act. This bill provides for Medicare coverage of dental and oral health services, including routine diagnostic and preventive services, basic and major dental services, and emergency care; dental prostheses are also covered. During the Finance Committee Hearing, Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) raised the issue of the importance of oral health. Political analysts believe that Becerra’s nomination will be confirmed by the Senate.
