The Washington Health Benefit Exchange (WHBE) Board will convene for a regularly scheduled meeting this Thursday and among other topics, will consider taking action on the addition of family dental benefits to the Marketplace.
Just as springtime signals new life, the work of your association this past month demonstrates major strides in the continued advancement our industry. To keep us on track with our six-year strategic plan, the Board of Directors met in Chicago for its annual face-to-face meeting, which included a conference call with the chairs and vice chairs of our volunteer groups. While there, the Board also held a joint meeting with leaders from the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Dental Benefits. All these activities provided invaluable insights regarding the work of our association.
The Exchange Policy Workgroup (EPW) recently reviewed and updated the NADP Issue Brief on “State Interpretations of Reasonable Assurance,” which outlines the variety of approaches states have taken in clarifying federal guidance for the offer of dental in the private market outside Exchanges.

Last week, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced a two-month extension of the comment period on the Form 5500 Modernization Proposals, which applies to dental plans (see Hogan Lovells applicability memo). The new deadline for comments is Monday, Dec.5.
This month, NADP submitted comments in support of a Texas Sunset Commission Report on the State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) and in particular, the Report’s Issue 1 findings regarding the TSBDE’s inappropriate focus on regulating dentists’ contracts with Dental Support Organizations (DSOs).
While the current pandemic curtailed travel for numerous March meetings, NADP continued to serve as the voice of the dental benefits industry to key stakeholders. NADP also advanced the industry by providing invaluable member resources.
