On Friday, Aug. 20, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an update to the tri-agency FAQs on the Price Transparency final rules and the No Surprises Act.

Last month, the Iowa Insurance Division (IID) reported on Dental External Review to the Governor and state legislature as required by a law passed in 2014. The report includes background and legislative history on external review for dental in the state, summary of stakeholder comments and IID findings. The IID concludes that no future amendments to statute include additional dental external review processes beyond medical necessity.

On April 17, 2015, Governor Inslee approved Washington House Bill 1002, which includes two primary sections to require carriers offering dental-only plans to submit information on loss ratios and to prohibit dental plans from denying coverage for treatment of emergency dental conditions that would otherwise be covered on the basis that the services were provided on the same day of examination and diagnosis.
