The Office of the Surgeon General had been developing a Report on Oral Health, which will instead be released by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The expected time of release is this fall. Following is a message from NIDCR Director (also posted online here).
A Message from the Director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
Oral health is integral to the health and well-being of all, and the dissemination of current advances and challenges is essential for the health of our nation. As a twenty-year follow-up to the seminal Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) will release the new report Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges in the fall of 2021.
The report will illuminate new directions in the prevention and treatment of oral disease; identify disparities and inequalities in oral health care; and propose innovative strategies for ensuring all Americans share equally in the benefits of oral health. A forthcoming website and related publications will highlight data and key findings for oral health professionals, stakeholders and interest groups.
NIDCR acknowledges the tireless efforts of the hundreds of individuals who have contributed to the report. Together, we look forward to sharing this important information with all of you soon.
