The New Mexico Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) has announced its intention to promulgate rules
establishing a minimum regulatory standards and sales practices
relating to limited scope dental and vision plans. At a work session
conducted by OSI on Jan. 14, NADP questioned the rationale behind the
requirement for minimum benefits, stating that rather than ensuring
quality coverage for patients in New Mexico, the requirement would have
the unintended consequence of lowering dental plan enrollment, leading
to poorer oral and overall health outcomes. In addition to requesting
several technical changes to the rules, NADP also advocated for OSI to
limit the scope of the rule to persons residing in the state.
