NADP On the Move in 2022

As the representative and recognized voice of the dental benefits industry, NADP advanced your positions among lawmakers, standards organizations, industry stakeholders and the media throughout 2022.  In addition, staff participation in professional development opportunities to learn techniques designed to enhance member services.

Virtual Advocacy in Action

NADP members and staff served as the voice of the dental benefits industry during the industry Congressional fly-in, Virtual Advocacy in Action, April 26-28.

NAIC

Director of Government Relations Owen Urech represented the dental benefits industry at the fall meeting (December) of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. NADP consultant Chris Pederson, Arbor Strategies, provided NAIC updates after attending the spring (April) and summer (August) meetings.

NCOIL

Director of Government Relations Owen Urech represented the dental benefits industry at the National Conference of Insurance Commissioners meetings in July and November.

 

Standards Organizations

ADA CMC

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry during the American Dental Association’s Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) meeting on March 10-11 in Chicago. The CMC annually reviews and revises the CDT Codes

DQA

NADP members, Drs.  Craig Amundson, HealthPartners; Mark Jurkovich, HealthPartners; Lynn Mouden, Cigna; Linda Vidone, Delta Dental of MA; Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown and NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the industry during the November meeting of the Dental Quality Alliance in Chicago.  Two new dental quality measures for pregnant patients were approved at this meeting.

HL7

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry during the HL7 winter (January) and spring (May) meetings. HL7 is an ANSI-accredited standards-developing organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery and evaluation of health services.

SNOMED International

NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry at the April SNOMED International Meeting in London, England. In September, Brown was joined by NADP Volunteers Drs. Mark Jurkovich, HealthPartners, Sheila Strock, Delta Dental of IL, and Linda Vidone, Delta Dental of MA  in Lisbon, Portugal for the SNOMED CT Expo, which unites clinical terminology subject matter experts from around the world,

SCDI

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn and Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown served as the voice of the dental benefits industry during ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI) meeting, Oct. 10-12 in Chicago. SCDI develops informatics standards and technical reports to assist the dental profession with hardware and software selection, digital photography, interoperability, data security and more.

X12

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the unique views of dental benefits plans during the Summer 2022 X12 Standing Meeting in San Antonio Texas, June 26-27. X12 develops and maintains EDI standards,  which drive business processes globally.

NADP Executive Director Eme Augustini presented to the Group Underwriters Association of America Conference in Newport, Rhode Island.

SKYGEN Summit

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry during the SKYGEN Summit, Oct. 17-19 in Phoenix, Arizona.

ASAE Annual Conference

In August, Director of Membership and Communications Rene Chapin and Associate Director of Communications and Technology Lauren Oakley attended the America Society of Association Executives Annual Conference to learn more about member communications and association databases.

Expo! Expo!

Director of Meetings and Events Jeremy May and Associate Director of Communications and Technology Lauren Oakley attended  Expo! Expo! Dec. 13-15 in Louisville, Kentucky, to learn about event software and other strategies to improve future NADP conferences. Expo! Expo! is an Annual Meeting and Exhibition hosted by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events® (IAEE). It brings together the exhibition ecosystem for mutual benefit through content, community, and connections. It is a trade show and conference featuring a marketplace for buyers and sellers and a robust education schedule. It also helps attendees become current with industry trends by participating in education sessions and networking opportunities.

AWINS Connect – NADP provided background information to reporter Leila Lavizadeh, AWINS Connect regarding the industry’s increased Net Promoter Score for customer satisfaction.

Fox News – NADP provided the Fox News Channel /Business Network with updated information regarding the number of Americans covered with dental benefits at year-end 2020. The information was taken from the 2021 Enrollment Report.

Virginia Health Catalyst  – NADP provided information about the number of individuals with dental benefits

Boston Globe – NADP Government Relations Director Owen Urech provided background information regarding the dental benefits industry and the affordable care act for the Oct. 25 article, No easy answers with a dental insurance ballot question, by Jessica Bartlett. NADP also joined other trade groups in speaking to the Globe editorial board in opposition to Question 2 as part of the newspaper’s endorsement process.

Washington Post – NADP Government Relations Director Owen Urech provided background information regarding the dental benefits industry, loss ratios, and the ACA for the Oct. 31 article, Abortion, pot and insurance aren’t the only health questions on ballots this year, by McKenzie Beard.

Boston Globe

After the mid-term elections, NADP Director of Government Relations Owen Urech provided information about the impact of dental medical loss ratios in other states.
