ADA Annual Conference

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brain Flynn served as your industry representative at the American Dental Association Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, Oct. 20-24.

IHTSDO

NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown serves as your industry voice to the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) meeting Oct. 23-26 in Wellington, New Zealand. IHTSDO determines global standards for ICD 10 and Snomed-CT. SNO-DDS, the combination of SnoDent and DDS Codes for dentistry are now part of Snomed-CT.

NASHP

NADP Associate Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini represented the dental benefits industry during the National Academy for State Health Policy’s 29th Annual State Health Policy Conference, Oct. 17-19 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. NASHP provides a forum for constructive work across branches and agencies of state government on critical health issues

Washington Post: NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, was quoted in an article by reporter Suzanne Allard Levingston, “Here’s what dentists recommend, including flossing your teeth.” Ireland commented on the many carriers offer enhanced benefits for enrollees with certain health conditions.

NADP Press Release: NADP distributed the press release, Kirk Andrews Receives NADP Gabryl Award. HL7

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry during the Health Level 7 Annual Plenary & Working Group Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. HL 7 is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited standards developing organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery and evaluation of health services.

X12

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn traveled to Cincinnati for the X12 Standing Meeting, which includes a meeting of the Code Maintenance Committee (CARC) where NADP is a voting member and the Dental Caucus which he chairs. X12 develops and maintains Electronic Data Interchange standards and Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas which drive business processes globally.

TALHI

NADP Director of Research Jerry Berggren co-presented on the future of voluntary benefits with Geralyn Trujillo of America’s Health Insurance Plans at the Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers Round-Up on Sept. 28 in Dallas, Texas.

NC DOI

On Sept. 19, NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway represented the dental benefits industry regarding proposed network adequacy regulations for plans in North Carolina.

Oral Health for All 2020

NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway traveled to Arlington, Virginia to represent the dental benefits industry at the Oral Health for all 2020 stakeholder meeting hosted by Oral Health 2020 and its collaborative partner School-Based Health Alliance.

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the X12, Code Maintenance Committee and Dental Caucus meetings June 5 -9 in Dallas. Discussion topics included 7030 developments. X12, chartered by the American National Standards Institute, develops and maintains standards, which drive business processes globally. As your representative, NADP monitors developments of healthcare standards to ensure the unique needs of the dental industry are met.

AHIP Institute

NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway traveled to Las Vegas for America’s Health Insurance Programs’ Institute and Expo, June 15-17.

DQA

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the recent Dental Quality Alliance meeting in Chicago. The mission of the Dental Quality Alliance is to advance performance measurement as a means to improve oral health, patient care and safety through a consensus-building process.

NAHU

Because the broker community outreach remains a high a priority, NADP Director of Research Jerry Berggren and Director of Membership and Communications Rene Chapin are participating in the National Association of Health Underwriters Trade Show in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 26-28. NADP promoted the value of dental benefits and increased brand awareness for the association during this event.

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn shared the unique positions of the dental industry at the recent 2016 Health Level 7 International Working Group Meeting, May 8-12 in Montreal, Canada. HL7 is a leader in the development, adoption and implementation of electronic data interchange standards. NADP holds a voting position on the Dental Caucus.

GUAA

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, and Director of Research Jerry Berggren presented at the Group Underwriters Association of American Annual Conference May 15-16 in San Antonio.

WEDI

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn offered dental industry perspective during the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Annual Conference May 23-26 in Salt Lake City, Utah. WEDI is the leading authority on the use of Health IT to improve healthcare information exchange in order to enhance the quality of care, improve efficiency and to reduce costs of the American healthcare system.

Senator Bennett Fundraiser

Evelyn Ireland, NADP Executive Director/NADPac Treasurer and Lisa Layman, Brown Rudnick attended a small group fundraising breakfast hosted by Brown Rudnick for Senator Bennet (D-CO) on Wednesday, May 11th in Washington, D.C. Senator Bennet is a member of both Senate HELP and Senate Finance Committees.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Hahn of Cigna, for his appointment to Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF) project, Engaging Oral Health Professionals in Efforts to Reduce Childhood Obesity as a liaison for the industry through NADP’s STI Clinical Workgroup. The project is being spearheaded by a collaboration consisting of the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, and the Santa Fe Group. A series of background papers designed to examine the state of the science related to preventing childhood obesity (children under age 12) and reducing the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages among children has been commissioned by RWJF.

National Oral Health Conference

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland served as your voice on a panel of oral health stakeholder groups at the National Oral Health Conference in Cincinnati April 19-21. The panel addressed the 15 year history since the 2000 Surgeon General’s Report on Oral Health. Ireland stressed the value of dental benefits in providing access to oral health care, the progress in benefit coverage since 2000, as well as the need to decouple medical and dental purchasing in Exchanges to open purchasing to the underserved senior population.

ADA Council on Dental Benefits

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE and Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry along with the full NADP Board of Directors at the American Dental Association Council on Dental Benefits meeting April 11-15 in Chicago.

IHTSDO

Dr. Roger Adams and NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry at the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation working group meetings in London, England, April 15-20.

ADSO

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland presented a session focused on dental plans and insurance at the Association of Dental Support Organizations 2016 Summit, April 20-22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

DDPA

NADP collaborated with the Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) in a unified industry response to inaccurate information presented in a recent ADA Health Policy Resource Center paper regarding commercial dental benefits for children. The united response was distributed to the ADA, select state dental associations, policy makers and published in the April 21 edition of NADP SmartBrief.
