To represent our member companies effectively and provide meaningful resources, the Government Relations Workgroup (GRW) continually keeps a watchful eye on key state issues. GRW is currently monitoring the status of state legislatures and issues plus the activities of the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL).
Many state legislatures have either adjourned early for the year or suspended their activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some reconvened this month to resume regular legislative business. A full list of legislatures and their statuses can be found here.
GRW is monitoring legislative and regulatory activity in the states and continues to hold regular conference calls to discuss advocacy priorities. NCOIL has announced that their scheduled summer meeting in July will be changed. While there are no specific details yet, we are preparing for the possibility that the meeting will be delayed and may take place virtually. NCOIL’s Health Committee has been working on a proposed Model Act sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA), which touches on several key policy topics such as network leasing and minimum loss ratios. We expect the Committee to continue discussing this bill when they resume their work at the next NCOIL meeting.
