During the X12 Winter 2025 Standing Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, NADP Director of Dental Informatics Brian Flynn represented NADP members regarding upcoming changes in Medicare requirements as discussed by the Dental Caucus on Feb. 6. Effective July 1, Medicare will require a modifier code and diagnosis code on all service lines. These new standards will affect the 837D transaction as it moves these codes from optional to required. The addition of these new fields will also affect paper claims that are currently captured by keying or OCR processes, as most plans and vendors do not currently require these fields or collect this information.
