On June 25,
CMS released an update on their Oral Health Initiative, which sets goals
for children’s preventive dental utilization in Medicaid as well as
highlighting “promising state practices” for oral health. Included in
the examples of state innovations were:
- Pennsylvania’s
changes to Medicaid managed care contracting through quarterly review
meetings with plans and incentives for pediatric preventive care
utilization. - California’s Dental Transformation Initiative, a Medicaid 1115 waiver that oversees payment and care reforms.
- New Hampshire’s expanded care settings for Medicaid pediatric dental including Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinics.
Overall, CMS
stated that they have not met their national target of 52% of children
receiving preventive dental care. Data on state developments is included
