Because of Allan Corkum’s leadership, NADP and the Research Commission have set a standard of excellence for new and revised industry research reports, enhancing the association’s reputation as the authoritative resource on dental benefits.

The ability and instinct to see where the industry’s information and data needs are headed are qualities clearly describing Allan Corkum, the 2021 recipient of the Don Mayes Leadership Award, recognizing outstanding volunteer leadership spanning three or more years.

Under Allan’s leadership, the Research Commission has successfully navigated a challenging period for NADP’s Industry Research. During his tenure as Vice-Chair and later as Chair, several surveys formerly conducted in partnership with other organizations, were taken on solely by NADP, including surveys on Claims Metrics, Customer Contact Center Metrics, Network Administration and New Enrollment.

At his suggestion and with his guidance, the Research Committee quickly adapted to the industry’s information needs, providing valued enhancements to these reports. The Commission also introduced new reports in anticipation of the industry’s needs, including

  • The current Benefit Utilization Survey;
  • A Series of COVID-19 Response surveys; and
  • Ad hoc surveys to inform NADP state government relations efforts.

Since 2018, Allan Corkum has served as the chair of NADP’s Research Commission, which works to improve and grow the quality and value of the industry research NADP conducts.

Allan Corkum is vice president of Dental Network Growth Strategy at UnitedHealthcare. He directs the Growth and Affordability agenda for UHC’s Dental commercial and government networks, including the largest Medicare Advantage network in the country. Prior to his current role, he led actuarial services for UHC’s Dental and Vision products and was accountable for the pricing, product development, and network development actuarial functions for UHC’s government, private label and commercial businesses. Allan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and holds a BSBA in Actuarial Science from the University of Hartford.

Allan’s NADP volunteer contributions include service on the FAIR Health and Actuary Member Interest Groups and the Sales Survey Task Force. In 2015, the Research Commission presented the Star Award to Allan for providing consistent thought leadership in the design and content of NADP’s Statistical Surveys.

Prior to his role as Research Commission Chair, he served as Vice-Chair from 2017 to 2018. Since 2020 Allan has also served as a member of the Strategic Planning Task Force.
