NADP Summarizes Key Sections of Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule
November 29, 2023
NADP members received a brief synopsis of key sections of the 936-page CY 2024 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on Nov. 3. The final rule details policy changes for Medicare payments under the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS), and other Medicare Part B issues, effective on or after Jan. 1.
The below synopsis was posted in the Advocacy Open Forum in Dental Interact.
In the rule, CMS will be codifying the payment policy for dental services for head and neck cancer treatments both primary and metastatic. The new codification will permit Medicare Parts A and B to pay for dental or oral examinations performed as a part of comprehensive work prior to medically necessary diagnosis and treatment. CMS also permits payment for dental services linked to other covered services linked to chemotherapy services, CAR-T cell therapy, and antiresorptive therapy. These coverage requirements have not yet been included in changes to Medicare Advantage payment policies. CMS will accept public comments for other clinical scenarios where Medicare payments could be made for dental services beginning in February.
