Dr. Charles D. Stewart, Aetna
With Dr. Charles Stewart as Chair of the NADP Codes Sub-WorkGroup, NADP successfully navigated the procedural and political aspects of industry representation on the ADA Code Maintenance Committee. Because of his leadership and expertise, NADP is a respected participant in this area, which is foundational to the dental industry. Recently, Dr. Stewart’s expertise was recognized by the ADA requesting that he author a chapter in the CDT Coding Companion Handbook.
Dr. Stewart’s leadership has been instrumental in NADP has achieving industry consensus on new and revised CDT Codes and representing the dental benefits industry in key discussions affecting the future of how dental plans and providers conduct business.
Volunteer History and Awards: From 2010-2011, Dr. Stewart was a member of the CDT Workgroup, which was part of the Professional Commission (PRC), the predecessor to the Standards and Transaction Initiative Codes WorkGroup and now the Terminology Sub-WorkGroup. In 2012, he became vice chair of the PRC CDT WorkGroup and became chair in 2013. He has remained chair as the CDT Workgroup transitioned to the STI Codes WorkGroup and in 2018 to the Terminology Sub-WorkGroup. As Chair of this workgroup, Dr. Stewart is NADP’s voting representative on the ADA Code Maintenance Committee.

As an active volunteer, Dr. Stewart has also served on the Clinical Workgroup since 2013 and the SNOMED/ICD SWG since 2017.
