Representation on Industry Terminology, Standards and Transactions

HL7

As voting members of the HL7 Attachments, Clinical Quality and Electronic Health Records Workgroups, NADP advocates for the unique needs and requirements of dental transactions to ensure your company’s operations run smoothly. In 2017 Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented NADP at the Jan. 18-19 meeting in San Antonio and NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented NADP in Madrid, Spain at the May 6-12 meeting.

ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI)

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the American Dental Association Standards Committee on Dental Informatics meetings in Chicago and Atlanta. SCDI develops industry standards and guidelines for electronic transactions.

SNODENT

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn is representing the dental benefits industry at the American Dental Association SNODENT Maintenance Committee meeting March 1 in Chicago. SNODENT stands for Systematized Nomenclature of Dentistry, which is a vocabulary designed to provide standardized terms for describing dental disease.

ADA CMC

Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown and Dr. Charles Stewart, Aetna, presented your industry submissions for consideration during the recent American Dental Association Code Maintenance Committee meeting March 8-10 in Chicago. NADP’s volunteers routinely review a prepublication copy of the CDT providing feedback on the alignment of the publication with CMC action. As a result, members that obtain their CDT License through NADP get early access to the publication.

ADA Council on Dental Benefits

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE and Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry along with the full NADP Board of Directors at the American Dental Association Council on Dental Benefits meeting April 10-12 in Chicago.

SNOMED International

NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry at SNOMED International, formerly the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO), in London, England, April 21-28. Later in the year NADP SNOMED SubWorkGroup Chair Dr. Roger Adams, Avesis and NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown traveled to Bratislava, Slovak Republic for the Oct. 18-25 meeting. SNOMED International determines global standards for health terms, an essential part of improving the health of humankind. NADP provided valuable industry feedback regarding the recently released odontogram reference set of dental diagnostic codes.

X12

NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the X12, Code Maintenance Committee and Dental Caucus meetings June 4 -8 in San Antonio. Discussion topics included 7030 developments. X12, chartered by the American National Standards Institute, develops and maintains standards, which drive business processes globally. As your representative, NADP monitors developments of healthcare standards to ensure the unique needs of the dental industry are met.

WEDI

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn offered dental industry perspective during the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Annual Conference May 28-21 in Scottsdale, Arizona. WEDI is the leading authority on the use of Health IT to improve healthcare information exchange in order to enhance the quality of care, improve efficiency and to reduce costs of the American healthcare system.

ADA Annual Conference

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn served as your industry representative at the American Dental Association Annual Conference, Oct. 19-24 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Representation on Industry Legislative & Policy Concerns

PAC Conference

Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini traveled to Key West, Florida for the Public Affairs Council Advocacy Conference, Jan. 30-Feb. 2, 2017. The conference offers three learning tracks: grassroots, communication and engagement.

NCOIL

NADP Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini represented the dental benefits industry at the National Conference of Insurance Legislators spring meeting in New Orleans, March 3-5. NADP Government Relations Analyst Artur Bagyants represented the dental benefits industry during the July and November meetings of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators in Chicago and Phoenix

AHIP Institute

NADP Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini and Director of Research Jerry Berggren traveled to Austin, Texas for America’s Health Insurance Programs’ Institute, June 7-9.

CMS

In August NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, held a follow-up meeting at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid regarding critical industry issues such as application of provider enrollment requirements for dentists in Medicare Advantage (MA) networks. NADP’s advocacy in combination with the ADA and DDPA led to CMS dropping the requirement for dentist registration for Part C MA networks.

NCSL

Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for the National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit Aug. 6 -9. Part of the NCSL mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures.

NASHP

NADP Government Relations Analyst Artur Bagyants represented the dental benefits industry during the National Academy for State Health Policy’s 30th Annual State Health Policy Conference, Oct. 23-25 in Portland, OR. NASHP provides a forum for constructive work across branches and agencies of state government on critical health issues

Oral Health 2020 National Network Gathering

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, participated in Oral Health 2020 National Network Gathering, Oct. 25-27, in Atlanta, Georgia. The annual gathering provides an opportunity for the network to meet face-to-face, connect with new partners, challenge one another, and track progress against the six Oral Health 2020 goals to improve lifelong oral health and eradicate dental disease in children.

On Nov. 17, NADP Executive Director Evelyn Ireland, CAE, presented at the Oregon Oral Health Coalition Conference, Winds of Change in Oregon’s Healthcare Climate.

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE presented at the Group Underwriters Association of American Annual Conference May 21-24 in Denver, Colorado.

NAHU

Because the broker community outreach remains a high a priority, NADP Director of Membership and Communications Rene Chapin and Associate Director of Communications and Technology Lauren Oakley participating in the National Association of Health Underwriters Trade Show in Orlando, Florida June 25-27. NADP promotes the value of dental benefits and increases brand awareness for the association and industry during this event.

  • Telemundo Network – NADP provided background information about the growth in dental benefits enrollment to news correspondent Maria Ochoa.
  • Kiplinger’s Retirement Report (September)– Mary Kane, editor and writer with Kiplinger’s Retirement Report interviewed NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE about financing options for seniors who need dental care.
  • Open Enrollment Press Release (October)– The NADP Exchange and Communications WorkGroups collaborated on an NADP press release, NADP Urges Consumers to Enroll in Dental Benefits in the Obamacare Marketplace. The release received 218 placements in major media markets across and had 1,120 views.
  • NADP Gabryl Award Press Release (October)– NADP distributed the press release, Amy Marko Receives NADP Gabryl Award. The release appeared in 226 major media markets across the U.S. and had 660 views.

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to represent NADP members on the American Dental Association (ADA) Standards Committee on Dental Informatics. SCDI develops informatics standards and technical reports to assist providers with hardware and software selection, digital photography, interoperability, data security and more.

NADP Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn served as your industry representative at the American Dental Association Annual Conference, Oct. 19-24 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the American Association of Dental Consultants Annual Meeting and Workshop May 3-6 in Orlando, Florida. AADC's goal is to connect dentists and others involved in dental benefits consulting and administration, to identify and promote best practices and to advance education and promote a common base of knowledge for consistent, evidence-based plan and claims evaluations.

HL 7

NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown shared the unique positions of the dental industry at the recent 2017 Health Level 7 International Working Group Meeting, May 6-12 in Madrid, Spain. HL7 is a leader in the development, adoption and implementation of electronic data interchange standards. NADP holds a voting position on the Dental Caucus.

GUAA

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE presented at the Group Underwriters Association of American Annual Conference May 21-24 in Denver, Colorado. GUAA is an individual membership organization which promotes the study, analysis and discussion of all matters of interest to the group insurance industry.

WEDI

UCCI

NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, represented NADPac at a Harrisburg fundraiser last week for Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania that was organized by United Concordia Companies, Inc. (UCCI). Senator Casey serves on both the Senate Finance and Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committees, which have jurisdiction over the key policy issues affecting dental plans. In addition to the fundraiser, she presented an overview of recent NADP data and advocacy to UCCI staff including their many participants on NADP volunteer groups.

SNOMED

NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown is representing the dental benefits industry at SNOMED International in London, England, April 21-28.

Oral Health Conference

NADP Director of Government Relations Eme Augustini traveled to Albuquerque to represent members at the 2017 National Oral Health Conference April 24-26. The conference is designed for stakeholders collaborating to improve the public’s oral health.
