On July 13, NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE and Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway met with Sen. Stabenow to discuss issues and concerns impacting the dental benefits industry.
State Affairs Manager Eme Augustini represented the dental benefits industry at the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) 2015 Summer Meeting, July 16-19, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Associated Press – Reporter Astrid Galván interviewed NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE regarding dental coverage trends and the number of Americans with coverage.
Medical Benefits Newsletter – Highlights from NADP’s 2014 State of the Dental Benefits Market Report were featured in an article by Joyce Anne Grabel.
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine – Reporter Miriam Cross interviewed NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE about dental benefit basics, including how much dental care costs, the best way for consumers to pay for it, and how to cut down expenses.
NADP continues to serve as your voice to wide array of industry stakeholders including providers, brokers and organizations that set standards for electronic data interchange (EDI) transactions. Highlights for the month of June include:
NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented the dental benefits industry at the X12, Code Maintenance Committee and Dental Caucus meetings May 30 - June 4 in San Antonio. Discussion topics included 7030 changes and timing for release, the effect of ICD-10 going live Oct. 1, 2015 and the potential use of the 838 transaction. X12, chartered by the American National Standards Institute, develops and maintains standards, which drive business processes globally. As your representative, NADP monitors developments of healthcare standards to ensure the unique needs of the dental industry are met.
Because the broker community outreach remains a high a priority, NADP Director of Research Jerry Berggren and Director of Membership and Communications Rene Chapin are participating in the National Association of Health Underwriters Trade Show in New Orleans, Louisiana June 28-30. NADP promoted the value of dental benefits and increased brand awareness for the association during this event.

On May 5, NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, and Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway presented your views to various Members of Congress, regarding implementation issues related to the Affordable Care Act.
NADP Director of Research Jerry Berggren served as your industry representative at the recent DentalPlans.com Summit May 7-8 in Orlando, Florida.
Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown and Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn shared the unique positions of the dental industry at the recent 2015 Health Level 7 International Working Group Meeting, May 10-15 in Paris, France. HL7 is a leader in the development, adoption and implementation of electronic data interchange standards. NADP holds a voting position on the Dental Caucus.
NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, presented at the Group Underwriters Association of American Annual Conference May 18-19 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn offered dental industry perspective during the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Annual Conference May 17-22 in Phoenix, Arizona.

ADA Council on Dental Benefits
Members of the NADP Board of Directors and staff members Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE; Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown and Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn as well as leaders from the American Dental Association Council on Dental Benefits discussed trends and issues impacting the industry and profession at their joint meeting April 23 in Chicago, Illinois. National Oral Health Conference
State Affairs Manager Eme Augustini represented NADP members at the 2015 National Oral Health Conference, April 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri. Sponsored by Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, the meeting focused on advancements in oral health, including a presentation on impact of the Affordable Care Act.
LA Times –Reporter Lisa Zamosky interviewed NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, regarding the cost of dental care: what insurance does and does not cover and options for getting needed care while managing costs.

ADA Code Maintenance Committee
Dr. Charles Stewart, Aetna; Dr. Fred Horowitz, Nevada Dental Benefits and NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented you at the recent American Dental Association Code Maintenance Committee (ADA CMC) meeting, March 3-5 in Chicago. Serving as CMC voting members, NADP submits proposed Code revisions on behalf of the membership. At this meeting, all but one NADP submission passed.
ADA RefSet Task Force
Dr. Fred Horowitz, Nevada Dental Benefits and NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented the dental benefits industry at the RefSet (Reference Set) Task Force meeting, March 26 in Chicago.
NADP Board Chair Chris Swanker, Guardian, and Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, represented the membership at the recent Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) Annual Meeting March 19-21 in Las Vegas.
NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway traveled to Phoenix to represent the views of the dental benefits industry at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) 2015 Spring Meeting.
Private Exchange Forums
NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, and State Affairs Manager Eme Augustini are serving as the industry voice during the Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s Private Exchange FORUM held in Dallas, March 31 through April 1.

ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI)
NADP Informatics Manager Brian Flynn is representing the dental benefits industry at the American Dental Association Standards Committee on Dental Informatics meeting, Feb. 23-25 in Chicago. SCDI develops industry standards and guidelines for electronic transactions.
NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway represented members at the California Association of Dental Plans (CADP) Legislative and Regulatory Conference Feb. 10-11 in Sacramento.
During her visit to Washington, D.C. Feb. 18, NADP Director of Government Relations Kris Hathaway shared industry views and insights with Healthcare.gov CEO Kevin Counihan and senior staff from the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.
Baylor College of Dentistry NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland provided background information regarding Texas dental benefits for a publication by Assistant Professor, Dr. Helena Tapias.

Serving as your voice, Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn represented NADP members at the recent Health Level 7 (HL7) meeting in San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 18-23. HL7 workgroups develop the content for electronic transactions standards. As voting members of the HL7 Attachments, Clinical Quality and Electronic Health Records Workgroups, NADP advocates for the unique needs and requirements of dental transactions to ensure your company's operations run smoothly.
NADP Executive Director Evelyn Ireland, CAE, represented our members at the recent Executive Committee and Board meeting of the U.S. National Oral Health Alliance in Boston, Jan. 20.
